Character's canon: Mai Otome
Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
How Haruka sums up the three key qualities all otome must possess is very telling about the kind of woman she is. Power, beauty and guts are those three qualities and she exemplifies them. Direct and aggressive, Haruka is brash and hotheaded on top of being a powerful presence that will do what needs done.
In many ways, Haruka seems fearless. She's more than willing to do insane stunts in battle because she's confident in herself, in her master, and she doesn't see the need to hold back. She finds those who use others in their battles instead of doing themselves as cowards, stirring her anger. Being as hotblooded as she is, Haruka will do things without thinking them all the way through if left without the control of her master's sensible, calm and logical mind. She's seen in canon jumping off a cliff in the midst of a rousing speech having forgotten to get authorization for her robe, and thus falling down before Yukino reached her. She's so well-known for her quick temper, that her subordinates will sometimes knock her out by hitting her in the head with a large boulder to keep her from running off an accidentally starting wars.
She has a very well defined sense of right and wrong and will act on what she believes is right. This sometimes puts her at odds with her master who understands the political arena far better than Haruka. In fact, they disagree over several things, mostly about approaches to incidents where Haruka would rather 'spank them on the butts' directly than going through the proper channels. The two have an agreement that when they disagree, whoever was right got to scold the other one and then they'd sit and have a long talk and come to a decision of a course to take together regarding it. When Haruka is calm, she's very reasonable and does think things all the way through, utilizing all she's known. The same goes for when she's determined and not just running on flash emotions.
While Haruka has amazing presence and leadership qualities, inspiring those around her, when she's put in the spotlight outside of battle, especially with other nations, she gets flustered easily. This most likely comes from being in an arena where she can't use her battle prowess to help her and one area her rival, Shizuru, was always better than her at. She also knows she's a reflection on Aries, so she tries too hard to not make mistakes when on camera or featured on some news clip. It doesn't help that Haruka has a very bad habit of mixing up words, often saying the wrong thing that sound similar to the words she wants, making herself sound silly. Yukino tends to correct her often and it flusters Haruka a little, so she claims that's what she said.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
As the only wiki link available for Haruka is insufficient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haruka_Suzushiro#My-Otome_anime) and based more on her Mai HiME incarnation, her history/background is as follows.
Haruka Armitage, like many girls, was sponsored by her country of Aries to attend Garderobe and become an otome for her country. Bold and aggressive, Haruka embraced the idea that the key components to being an otome were power, beauty and guts. It was at Garderobe that she met Shizuru Viola, another student like herself who also ended up being her roommate and another high-performing candidate. Haruka declared Shizuru her rival and the two were constantly paired up in exercises, trials and tests. Haruka always tried to find ways to outdo Shizuru and the other would subtly take advantage of Haruka's need to prove herself better.
As the pair rose from Corals to Pearls, they both became part of the Trias – the top three Pearls. Her and Shizuru's rivalry continued as Number One and Number Two (Haruka was Number Two), but it took on a more friendly feel than cutthroat as the two became friends. Still, it didn't look much very friendly unless an observer knew them both. The two would part ways upon graduation with Shizuru selected as one of the Five Columns and Haruka selected to inherit the Continental Orb Topaz, chosen by the new President of Aries, Yukino Chrysant.
Over the next few years, Haruka and Yukino became very close even though they didn't always agree on things. Many times, Yukino would have to have a subordinate hit Haruka on top of the head with a large rock to knock her out, to keep the meister from storming off to deal with something in her typical brash, direct way which could have lead to war. During this time, Haruka rose to be the Brigadier General of the Aries military along with being the nation's Meister Otome. She became an icon among the Aries people, loved by them all for the way she stands up for what is right and doesn't back down. She even becomes a role model for what an otome is supposed to be to Arika Yumemiya when they meet during the Windbloom Queen's inaguration after Haruka saves the girl.
During the Wind City incident that encompasses the Mai Otome series, Haruka was restrained by Yukino from barging in and helping because such acts would be seen as acts of war by the other countries. So, the pair had to work subtly and politically, gathering intel and alliances with other nations before finally taking the fight to the occupied city. Haruka took her favorite ship in the Aries fleet, the Suzushiro, underneath the sands of the desert to get close to the Artai fleet before surfacing and attacking with a preemptive strike. When Artai's ally, Schwarz, summoned forth all their Slave forces to fight, Haruka teamed up with Shizuru once again to defeat the Slaves while the others headed in to stop Artai, keeping their spirits up by making the fight against the Slaves the way to finally 'settle' which one of them was better by who defeated more Slaves.
One year later, the presidential elections in Aries are approaching and Yukino is running for another term. Loved as she and Haruka both are by the people, there is little concern about Yukino getting reelected until an Artai insurgence group takes a bus hostage in the middle of the capital city and demands the release of the Archduke of Artai being held captive after the Wind City incident in the Aries Desperate Prison. Despite attempts to stop Haruka from getting herself involved as Yukino wanted to handle it quietly given the elections, the meister goes directly down there with a bullhorn and demands the release of the hostages.
Before she could make a worse mess of things, spooking the terrorists as she had, she's knocked out by an ally. After she came to, Yukino offers herself in exchange for the hostages to talk to the terrorists. While Yukino is talking to them, Haruka comes up with a plan to get Yukino out and the terrorists captured using herself as a distraction while the Delta Defense Force otome of Aries came in and dealt with the terrorists. At the same time, an enemy monster called a Child attacked Aries and Haruka has to activate her robe to save Yukino. That drew the controller of the Child's attention, an extraterrestrial being called Yuna, and it attacked Yukino. Haruka threw herself at Yuna, preventing her from harming Yukino, but at the cost of being turned to stone by a special attack of Yuna's. She was alive, but the beam has solidified her cells affected by the nanomachines, much like many others had, including Shizuru. Remaining an unresponsive statue until the other otome defeated Yuna, Haruka was restored upon the creature's defeat and resumed her duties as the Aries Meister.
It is while Haruka is still a statue that she will arrive on Stacy.
Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
Haruka was sitting in what she assumed was the hangar given the number of ships present and the distinct military feel to some of them. Being Brigadier General had given her a lot of exposure to various forms of military might, though this was the first time she'd seen anything like the giant robots. They reminded her of the Aswad cyborgs scaled up and wondered if they were remotely controlled of if they, too, had a human aspect to them.
And that was when a pair of humans – she was pretty sure they were human – came out, opened up the cockpits of two of the giant robots and jumped into them. Haruka watched with interest as they started moving, very much reinforcing the cyborg comparison. As the two machines went through a series of training exercises, the meister nodded to herself from time to time as she analyzed their capacities. Far more mobile and precise than a warship or destroyer, they still lacked the beauty and power of an otome. She supposed it would've been a good medium for the poorer nations of Earl or countries like Zipang that didn't seem to want otome bridge a bit of a gap in military might. Or at least, that's what Haruka assumed Yukino would've said.
There was a sudden crashing sound as one of the giant robots fell backwards, apparently having been defeated in the training exercises – the young pilot – and it drew Haruka's away from her missing master to the scene before her. And that was when she saw the victorious one draw back its weapon in preparation to strike at the down and defeated opponent. This was supposed to be a training exercise from what Haruka had gathered! Such cowardice!
“Materialize!”
In a flash of yellow, Haruka activated her robe and element. The mace flew toward the giant robot, wrapping the chain about the hand holding the energy sword, stopping it before it could strike the downed machine. With a yell, Haruka yanked back on her element hard enough to jerk the offending giant robot onto it's back given the pilot's surprise. With a leap, Haruka landed on the cockpit and pointed right at the robot's face.
“How about you pick on someone your own size?! Come out so I can disciple you properly!” She'd meant to say 'discipline', but without Yukino there to correct her, the pilot's confusion over the meister's demand was even more justified.
If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Haruka is a Meister Otome bearing the Continental Orb Topaz GEM. Otome are women who have had their bodies infused with a special kind of nanomachines that allow the Otome to utilize highly materializing energy.. The nanomachines greatly enhance an Otome's strength, speed and resistance to damage. They also grant the Otome a low level of regeneration and the ability to materialize a robe. Otome were created to be replacements for armies, so the power of a single meister otome is equal to, if not greater, than a nation's military.
The robe and the unique powers granted by it is the real strength of an otome. The increased physicals, resistance and regeneration are always active, but the robe can only be activated if authorized by the otome's master. The robe acts as extremely strong armor, grants the otome flight and increases her speed and strength even more. It also has the ability to expand the ribbon-like pieces of the robes to great lengths, make them somewhat prehensile in that they can wrap around things. While materialized into her robe, the otome can focus her energy into defensive force fields/shields about her and form her element. The element is different for every otome and is her weapon of choice. It's through the use of the element that the otome's strongest attacks come from. The robe also sustains and stabilizes the otome in extreme conditions, even so far as allowing her to fly into space and survive as if she was a small space craft as seen in the My Otome Zwei OVA.
Haruka, as the Meister Otome of the Nation of Aries, has an extreme amount of strength while materialized. She is seen in canon catching a large military ship one-handed while saving a student with her other hand. Then she uses the single hand to throw the ship... into orbit around the planet. Her element is a large mace on an extendable chain with the other end being an axe-like weapon. She has an 'ultimate' attack called Dynamite Crusher where she throws her element with her full strength.
Otome are indeed very powerful, but there are controls on the technology. First of all, the specific type of nanomachines are incompatible with the Y chromosome, which is why otome are all female, and the nanomachines are vulnerable to the prostrate specific antigen (PSA) which renders an otome's body to develop an immunity to the nanomachines, removing her powers as one. Because of this, otome must swear off any sexual relations with men.
An important limitation to otome is the contract. Each GEM is really a pair – one of the otome and one for the otome's master – and it is through these GEM's that a contract between otome and master is formed. This contract links the pair's life force together so if one dies, so does the other. They share the pain of a battle and the otome can only materialize her robe under explicit authorization from the master. In extreme situations, an otome can form an interim contract with another to be able to use her robe if needed and her contracted master isn't present. Haruka's contracted master is Yukino Chrysant, the President of Aries. As Yukino is an appable character and not currently taken, Stacy can act as Haruka's interim master, granting her authorization to materialize her robes. This also means that Stacy can remove that authorization at any time and if Haruka hasn't received authorization before leaving the ship, she will be unable to materialize her robe. And sometimes she will forget to get authorization.

Haruka is the Brigadier General of the Aries Military, so she has extensive military knowledge, battle tactics (though she favors aggressive maneuvers), presence and leadership abilities. She's also capable of navigating and surviving in unknown areas very well.
